Since the bones in children's feet are soft and pliable, abnormal pressure can easily cause deformities. A child's feet grow rapidly during the first year, reaching almost half of their adult foot size. There are very clear developmental milestones of a growing foot, what to expect at each age. Our Podiatrists advise parents about the milestones of their child’s feet and appropriate footwear at each stage.
Parents bring in their child if they are experiencing unusual walking patterns, collapsing ‘flat foot’, hip or knee malalignment, verruca or ingrown toenails. Often only reassurance and exercises are given however sometimes specialised Paediatric Orthoses or other forms of treatment are indicated.
